The latest political opinion poll has shown that Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua is the best politician from Mt Kenya to deputise any of the many presidential aspirants in the 2022 General Election.

The poll was conducted in the Mt Kenya region, considered the biggest swing vote area that will determine who becomes Kenya’s 5th president after August 2022.

From the poll, 10.6% of Mt Kenya residents believe that Martha Karua, recently crowned as Mt Kenya spokesperson, is the best politician that all presidential contestants should be wooing.

Former Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri followed as the second most preferred deputy President in Mt Kenya region at 7.9  percent.

The other candidates who Mt Kenya people want to be presidential running mates in 2022 are;

Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria at 7.6 percent.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru at  7.5 percent

Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua at 7.2 percent

Former Presidential contender, Peter Kenneth  at 6.4 percent

Speaker Justin  Muturi at 6.0 percent

Gatundu South MP Moses  Kuria  at 5.2 percent and 

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe at 4.1 percent.

The survey also showed that Deputy President William Ruto still leads as the most preferred Presidential candidate in Mt Kenya region.

About 57.2 percent of Mt Kenya residents said they would vote for Ruto to be President if the General Election was to be held today.

From the research, there is a wide margin between Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga who stands at 11.0 percent.

However, Wiper Paty leader Kalonzo Musyoka trailed behind other presidential candidates with only 0.3 percent of Mt Kenya residents supporting him.

Other Presidential candidates were ranked as follows;

Alfred Mutua on 3.8 percent; 

Musalia  Mudavadi  on  2.6; 


Gideon Moi on 1.2; and

Kivutha  Kibwana on  0.5.

The research further showed that Ruto’s popularity in Mt Kenya region is lower compared to 2017 when he was President Uhuru Kenyatta’s running mate.

It showed that he might not receive as many votes as President Uhuru in 2017 General Election.
