ODM leader Raila Odinga has assured aspirants seeking to fly the party’s flag in the 2022 General Election that the party will hold free and fair nominations.

In what appeared to be a win for ODM presidential ticket contender Jimmy Wanjigi who has vowed to give Raila a run for his money, the former Premier said the party will conduct nominations where consensus would have failed.

“ODM will allow aspirants to sit and choose amongst themselves who should fly the party flag. If they can’t agree, a nomination will have to take place,” Raila Odinga said.

Raila who was in Awendo, Migori County on Thursday, December 2, to popularise his 2022 presidential ambition, maintained that every Kenyan will receive medical insurance covers in his government if he becomes president after the 2022 elections.

“From next year we will be able to roll out the universal healthcare so that every Kenyan citizen will have insurance. Those who are unable to pay for themselves, the government will pay for them, so that people are properly covered in terms of medical insurance,” he said.

Raila’s remarks come barely two weeks after the former Prime Minister revealed that the party will issue direct tickets ahead of the 2022 General Election.

Raila who was speaking in Kibra on 18, November 2021, opined that he was backing the party’s decision to have a consensus over primaries a move that did not settle with other ODM spirants including businessman Jimmy Wanjigi.

“The party will employ four options to nominate its candidates. The first one will be consensus, while the delegates system will be the second option,

“The third option will involve the use of party members with membership cards and not just IDs (identity cards). Therefore, those who want to be members of the party should take advantage of the ongoing free registration to be able to participate in the primaries,” he added.
