The race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022 has attracted what might be the youngest aspirant, 32-year-old Dorothy Kemunto.

The businesswoman said she is seeking to bring a paradigm shift encompassing women and youth away from the traditional norm of leaders.

“I am aspiring to be the next President of Kenya in the 2022 General Election,” Kemunto declared.

The youthful female presidential candidate stated that her biggest objective is to create a conducive environment for local businesses to thrive while at the same time attracting international investors.

Kemunto says she is focused on the top seat and will only play second fiddle if the other party has the same agenda.

She expected to give ODM leader Raila Odinga, Deputy President William Ruto, and the One Kenya Alliance principals Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetang’ula, Gideon Moi, and Kalonzo Musyoka a run for their money.

Kemunto becomes the first woman to board the Presidential train to State House, following in the footsteps of her predecessors the late Wangari Maathai, Nazlin Omar, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, and Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua.

Her declaration comes barely hours after 2013 presidential aspirant Martha Karua urged women to come out and seek more elective seats including that of the presidency.

“I urge Kenyans to give women a chance to lead but choose a leader who will serve them,” Karua said on Monday, November 15, during an interview with Radio Citizen.

The NARC-Kenya party leader who emerged sixth in the race, having garnered 43,881 votes however said she will not be seeking the country’s top seat in 2022 stating that she is currently focused on serving the Kirinyaga residents.

The Kirinyaga gubernatorial aspirant said she still has unfinished business with the presidency adding that God-willing one day she will serve in that capacity.

“I can serve Kirinyaga County the same way I believe I can serve nationally. There is no small position, serving Kirinyaga people are serving Kenyans,” she said.
