by Nderi Caren

Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has expressed his dissatisfaction with President Uhuru’s statement where he asked Kenyans not to elect thieves as president in the 2022 General Election.

Speaking in Kiambu county on Friday, October 29, the retiring Uhuru cautioned Kenyans against electing thieves and crooks who may mess up his legacy.

The sentiments we interpreted by allies of Deputy President William Ruto as directed at him even though there are several presidential aspirants in the field.

Speaking a day after President Uhuru made the statement, Aden Duale wondered why the president cannot have the thieves in the 2022 presidential race arrested.

“(President Uhuru) you are insulting us. If there is a thief or crook in those vying for the presidency in 2022, why don’t you have them arrested and charged?” Aden Duale posed.

The vocal legislator is a strong ally of Deputy President William Ruto who has eyes set on succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

Other top contenders for the presidency are ODM leader Raila Odinga and One Kenya Alliance principals; Gideon Moi, Musalia Mudavadi, and Kalonzo Musyoka.

All the above except William Ruto seem to enjoy good relations with the president.

Chairperson of United Democratic Alliance(UDA), a party associate with William Ruto also took exception in President Uhuru warning Kenyans against electing thieves.

Johnson Muthama, the UDA chairperson said some of President Uhuru’s family members and current political allies have been implicated in theft of public funds before.

“His handshake partner Raila Odinga was mentioned in stealing molasses plant in Kisumu from Govt as well as misappropriation of funds in Mumias Sugar Company and Kazi Kwa Vijana Programme during Mwai Kibaki Administration,” said the outspoken Muthama.
