Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has consoled Kenya Kwanza candidates for their loss in the mini polls conducted on Monday, August 30.
In the Kakamega governorship polls, Cleophas Malala of ANC was floored by Fernandes Barasa of ODM while Hassan Omar of UDA was floored by Abdulswamad Nassir of ODM in the Mombasa gubernatorial race.
In a statement on Tuesday, August 30, Mudavadi, a principal in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance said although Malala and Hassan lost, they still have ample time ahead of them to flip the script.
“I thank the people of Kakamega and Mombasa counties for turning out to vote for Kenya Kwanza governorship candidates. Though Cleophas Malala and Hasaan Omar did not triumph, they put up a gallant effort. Age is still on your side,”
“You have both displayed maturity where others have failed. Do not be discouraged by a mere fall, the future remains bright,” Mudavadi said in a Tweet.
Malala emerged second in the Kakamega governorship polls after polling 159,508 votes while Barasa emerged winner after gannering192,929 votes.
Nassir on the other hand polled 119,083 votes flooring Hassan Omar who garnered 98,105 votes in the Mombasa gubernatorial race.
Speaking a few minutes after the official announcement of the results, former Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala conceded defeat.
“I am grateful to all who voted for me and those who didn’t vote for me, at my personal level I have accepted the results. I ask my supporters to stay calm as we focus on the future,” Malala said.
The vocal youthful leader pledged to work with the governor-elect to ensure residents of Kakamega county are well served.
“We lost by more than 20,000 votes. My congratulations go to Barasa and his entire team for the good work they did, I will join forces with him to make Kakamega a better place,” he said.
