Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Nominee Mithika Linturi has disclosed that he has over 35 active court cases.

Appearing before the National Assembly on Appointments on Friday, October 21, the former Meru Senator revealed that the cases are spread across various courts in the country.

“I am an open book. In fact, those who write and say a litany of cases are an understatement. I have 35 civil cases right now,” Linturi stated.

Linturi, who unsuccessfully vied for Meru gubernatorial seat on August 9, elections further told the committee that all the 35 court cases were civil and that he does not have any criminal pending court cases.

“They are all civil. The only criminal case I had in court was between the republic and I, where the complainant was Beryl, and it’s a case where people wanted to extort money from me,” he added.

Linturi was responding to the committee which sought clarity regarding the fate of the suits filed against him.

Among the matters raised by the committee include a case where Linturi was charged with attempted rape and the validity of his academic credentials.

Linturi’s vetting was occasionally characterized by drama as President William Ruto’s ally struggled to respond to concerns raised regarding his suitability for the job.

For instance, the UDA politician told the committee that all his academic credentials were in his house and that the court had barred him from accessing the facility hence he could not come with them.

Linturi who was the first to appear before the committee on the fourth day of vetting further disclosed that he is worth KSh 1.2 billion.

The committee suspended the vetting process on Thursday, October 20, due to the commemoration of the country’s 59th Mashujaa Day at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.
