Alfred Mutua tells Kalonzo Musyoka Kambas are not cowards

by Enock Ndayala

Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has dismissed Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s claims that Kambas are cowards.

The vice President had earlier castigated his lieutenants for not fully embracing the weekly anti-government protests called by opposition leader Raila Odinga.

“Kambas displayed utmost cowardice during the demonstrations,” Kalonzo said insisting that Azimio will be back into the streets should the Kenya Kwanza fail to show seriousness in the ongoing bi-partisan talks.

However, in a statement on Thursday, April 6, the CS termed Kalonzo’s remarks as ‘surprising’.

The former Machakos governor indeed confirmed that the Kamba community did not take part in the Azimio demonstrations not because they are cowards but because the community prefers peace to violence.

He further stated that Kambas do not approve for maandamano, violence, looting, and destruction of property.

“It’s surprising that a leader of the stature of Kalonzo Musyoka who has built his career in diplomacy and peace building would urge communities to violence,

“Kambas in this case – are cowards. No. it is because they are just not violent and do not approve of maandamano, violence, looting, and destruction of property. Kenyans and indeed Kamba’s are an intelligent people and do not engage in futility,” he said.

Addressing mourners during the burial of businessman Pius Musembi, the former vice president asked the Kamba community to emulate the brevity of Luos to win the presidency.

“Kambas should emulate Luos to win the presidency. If you developed a spine, the whole nation would take notice. Winning the presidency will take more than pressuring [Azimio leader] Raila Odinga to declare his support to Kalonzo. These things are never given. They are grabbed,” he said.
