Analyst says One Kenya Alliance has no one to beat Ruto in 2022

by Enock Ndayala

Political analyst Herman Manyora believes One Kenya Alliance (OKA) has no politician capable of defeating Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 presidential race.

This comes at a time when (OKA) principals have insisted that it is their turn to be backed by ODM leader Raila Odinga for the presidency, saying they have stood by him in the last two General Elections.

In an opinion article on Friday, July 2, Manyora argued that the alliance is neither a political formation nor a political party that intends to produce a serious presidential candidate.

“Any of them can be a presidential candidate one day. The elephant in the room is (William) Ruto and none of them can beat him, even with (President) Uhuru and (ODM leader) Raila’s support. Only Raila can,” Manyora said.

He said the alliance bringing together Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Gideon Moi (KANU), and Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya) was formed with each hoping to be the flag-bearer.

Manyora, a lecturer of communication and linguistics at the University of Nairobi further said all of them will be headed where former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will be towards the 2022 elections.

This comes at a time when anti-Ruto leaders including President Uhuru Kenyatta are calling for the four leaders to unite with ODM chief Raila Odinga as the only way to defeat William Ruto.

Even though Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi recently said none of the four principals of the One Kenya Alliance can win elections without the support of Raila Odinga, the leaders have maintained that they better go their own way than work with “untrustful” Raila Odinga.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka in his latest media interview said he supported Raila in 2013 and 2017 where they lost to the Jubilee party and that it is time the former Prime Minister returns the favors.

“I am not a weakling… Raila and I have never sat to discuss 2022. I will be the most stupid person on earth to support Raila Odinga for president for the third time without a measure of reciprocity,” Kalonzo Musyoka said.
