A section of women leaders from the Mt Kenya region is now pushing Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru to be named as Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential running mate.
Led by Caroline Muriithi, the women majority of who are from Kirinyaga County said the former Devolution CS has all that it takes to deputize William Ruto should the Kenya Kwanza form the next government.
They said Waiguru who has already received a UDA ticket to seek her re-election bid as the governor implemented programs that continue to touch the lives of millions of Kenyans.
“During her tenure as Cabinet Secretary for Devolution, Waiguru implemented life-changing programs that continue to touch the lives of all Kenyans. Talk of the Huduma Centres, Ifmis, and the slum upgrade projects, Waiguru is the best candidate for the running mate position,” the ladies said.
This comes barely two months after Waiguru emerged as the most preferred Mt Kenya politician to be considered as the running mate to Deputy President William Ruto on August 9, General Election.
According to the poll released by TIFA on February 17, Waiguru beat Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua in the list of potential running mates from the Mt Kenya region.
Having been fronted by various quarters as one of the most suitable politicians to deputize the Ruto, Waiguru said she would readily accept to be Ruto’s running mate if she is nominated.
“It would be a great honor to deputize Ruto and if he sees it fit that I would compliment him and support him, I would accept it,” Waiguru said.
This comes at a time when the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) gave presidential front runners William Ruto and Raila Odinga more time to present their running mates.
In the event Waiguru is picked as William Ruto’s running mate, it will hand her bitter rival Purity Ngirici an easy win as UDA will have to recall her gubernatorial certificate.
