ANC deputy party leader drops hint Mudavadi could join Azimio la Umoja

by Enock Ndayala

ANC deputy party leader Ayub Savula has sensationally claimed that party leader Musalia Mudavadi could join ODM leader Raila Odinga’s azimio la Umoja ahead of the 2022 polls.

Speaking outside parliament on Wednesday, December 29, the Lugari Member of Parliament said he will not allow the One Kenya Alliance co-principal to team up with Deputy President William Ruto.

“I can’t say he (Musalia) is joining Azimio (la Umoja) or not. Anything is possible but working with Ruto is no,” Savula said when asked whether Musalia will join Raila’s Azimio la Umoja Movement.

ANC deputy party leader Ayub Savula has sensationally claimed that party leader Musalia Mudavadi could join ODM leader Raila Odinga’s azimio la Umoja ahead of 2022 polls.

Savula who has expressed interest to succeed Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya said the ANC party will be looking to work with like-minded leaders in the build up to the 2022 General Election.

“We will have an NDC (National Delegates Conference) on January 15, 2022. We’ll endorse Mudavadi as the party’s flag bearer and give him mandate to look for a coalition with other like-minded leaders,” Savula said.

While defending his move where he voted for the controversial Political Parties (Amendment) Bill 2021 that seeks to streamline how coalitions are formed ahead of 2022 elections, the ANC deputy party leader disclosed that Mudavadi summoned them to rally behind Azimio la Umoja Bill.

“Our party leader summoned us through a PG (Parliamentary Group) meeting and instructed us to support the Bill,

“He was only against the six-month timeline for coalition formation and that’s why I tabled an amendment,” he said.

In 2017, Mudavadi worked with ODM leader Raila Odinga, Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula under the moribund National Super Alliance (NASA) but lost to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Savula’s remarks comes barely days after the Infotrak survey revealed that the 2022 presidential race will be a two-horse race with majority of Kenyans proposing dissolution of OKA to support either of the presidential front runners.
