Anne Waiguru offers solutions to rescue collapsing Jubilee party

by Nderi Caren

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has called for major changes in Jubilee Party ahead 2022 General Election.

Waiguru admitted that Jubilee’s influence has diminished and it is not the great party that was created 10 years ago.

“The Jubilee Party carries the dreams and aspirations of many Kenyans. It was built on the strengths of many. The party became what it was because of it’s diverse and broad support base. The rains have beaten us. Our fortunes are dwindling. Intense introspection is demanded,” wrote Waiguru on her social media page.

Waiguru further called for the reorganization of Jubilee, in order to shade off the old skin of the party.

“As we head to 2022 we must recognize that the Party is now operating in a new context far different from 5 years ago (when it was formed). We have a much younger generation dominating the electorate.

Our outlook and strategies must suit the times and so we must be willing to step off our comfort zones and embrace new ways of thinking and doing. We need a reenergized Jubilee that projects the face of Kenya in all its diversities,” She said.

Anne Waiguru’s call for the restoration comes nearly a month after the party was floored in 3 by-elections held on May 18 after which calls for reoganisation of the party started.

Nakuru Governor was among senior party members who called for changes at the party top brass in the wake of losses in Bonchari, Rurii, and Juja by-elections.

Waiguru’s comments comes when the party is headed to another tough race at Kiambaa Constituency to face off with UDA which floored it (Jubilee party) in Juja and Rurii by-elections.

In a televised interview almost a month ago, deputy president William Ruto also admitted the party has been hijacked by people who have led it astray.

The party has also been recently divided by the coronation of National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi.

Anne Waiguru and her Murang’a counterpart Mwangi wa Iria led in opposing the crowning of Muturi.

On the other hand, other Jubilee Governors including Martin Wambora, Kiraitu Murungi and Muthomi Njuki supported Muturi’s crowning.

Also, the party has for a long time been divided as some members, allied to DP William Ruto denounced their allegiance to Jubilee.
