Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru had a slip of the tongue after she confused Deputy President William Ruto with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Waiguru, who was speaking at the Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi during the signing of the Kenya Kwanza agreement with other political parties on Tuesday, April 12, mistakenly referred to Ruto as the Azimio la Umoja leader.

Wary of her mistake, the county boss quickly apologized saying she had said what she had anticipated making in her address.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru had a slip of the tongue after she confused Deputy President William Ruto with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

“Your excellency the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya and the party leader of UDA and the leader of the Azimio Group… Alliance… My sincere apologies. It’s because I was thinking about what I would say about them,” she said as she proceeded with her speech.

Well, William Ruto heads the One Kenya Alliance while Azimio la Umoja coalition- which Waiguru mistakenly said is led by Ruto is actually led by ODM leader and presidential aspirant, Raila Odinga.

Waiguru’s slip of the tongue has since left netizens questioning her loyalty to UDA with some claiming that the former Devolution CS might be a member of William Ruto’s coalition but her heart was still in Azimio.

The outspoken politician later came out to insist she is firmly in UDA and One Kenya Alliance through a post to her social media accounts.

Waiguru previously belonged to Azimio before she decamped to Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in October 2021.

Her decision, she said, was informed by the Kirinyaga electorate who she claimed is solidly behind William Ruto’s presidential bid.

Waiguru later lauded the parties’ move to join the Kenya Kwanza alliance which brings together William Ruto’s UDA, ANC (Musalia Mudavadi) and Ford Kenya (Moses Wetang’ula) saying the alliance was more than just an alliance but a home.

“What I would love to say at this point is to welcome parties which have made the bold move to join us in the kwanza Alliance, this is an alliance which is more than just a political movement it is a home for many of us,” Waiguru stated.
