Anne Waiguru emerges strongest Mt kenya politician to be next deputy president

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru had a slip of the tongue after she confused Deputy President William Ruto with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru has emerged as the most preferred Mt Kenya politician to be considered as the running mate to Deputy President William Ruto on August 9, General Election

According to the poll released by TIFA on Thursday, February 17, Waiguru has beaten Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua in the list of potential running mates from the Mt Kenya region.

Though the ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi was the overall best probable running mate for Ruto at 27 percent, Kirinyaga governor scooped 31 percent of the respondents to emerge the best in the Mt Kenya region.

MP Rigathi Gachugua came distant the third at 14 percent followed closely by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro at 11 percent, with Martha Karua in the fourth place with a popularity rate of 10 percent.

Waiguru, who has recently expressed her willingness to the DP Ruto’s running mate has already declared that she is interested in defending her governor seat in the August 9 elections.

It is worth noting that leaders from the Mt Kenya region within the Kenya Kwanza alliance have on several occasions insisted that the running mate slot is reserved for the region.

The same polls also ranked Ruto as the most preferred presidential candidate at 38.7 even though his popularity remains unchanged since the last poll in November.

The ODM leader Raila Odinga’s popularity is at 27 percent, which translates into a 4 percent increase from the previous poll.

The survey was conducted between February 3 and 9, after two major political events happened in the last three months.

Raila announced he would contest the presidency in August and after Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula joined forces with Ruto.
