Anne Waiguru says it’s time for deep political thought after BBI judgment

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru declared her intention to have a deep political thought after the BBI judgement.

While welcoming judgement by the court of appeal judges, Waiguru said she is going to have a serious ‘soul searching’ on her political future.

“Kenya will go on. BBI intended well but we must respect the constitutional authority of the courts and find other legitimate means to achieve Kenya’s unity and prosperity,

“And for some of us, it is time for serious introspection on the political way forward,” Waiguru wrote in a social media post.

Waiguru was one staunch supporter of the BBI bill. Recently, she stated that failure to pass the BBI bill, Kenya will have a runoff in the 2022 General Election.

“It’s going to be very complex if the BBI doesn’t pass. It is going to be very difficult for those who are running for the presidential seat to choose their running mates and also work out their matrices,” she said.

Other than the Kirinyaga governor, the BBI judgement has sparked emotions in some of the other vocal proponents of the bill.

In an acceptance message, Raila Odinga vowed to respect the decision of the 7-judge bench and move on from the BBI talks.

Raila termed the judgement as an end to the BBI, and not calls for the change of the constitution.

“For us, as we have stated before, we shall engage only to the extent that circumstances will require. But we feel that we have to move on. This is not an indication of our regard to this noble initiative

As the proponents of the BBI were accepting their new reality and talking on moving on, its opponents have been filled with joy.

Right after the judgement, Deputy President William Ruto welcomed the decisions by the judges, thanking God for the turn of events.
