Anne Waiguru’s bitter rival adds salt to her injuries

by Enock Ndayala

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru’s bitter rival Purity Ngirici has warned the county chief against dragging the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party into her troubles with Anti-graft agencies.

This was after the embattled county boss said the move by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has been escalated by her recent defection to William Ruto’s UDA camp.

On Thursday, October 28, the People Daily reported that detectives were finalising investigations into corruption allegations at the Kirinyaga county government, which could see her arrested as early as next week.

But Kirinyaga Woman Rep Purity Ngirici, who is considered to be Governor Waiguru’s bitter rival, asked the former Devolution CS not to blame her tribulations on joining William Ruto’s hustler movement.

Ngirici further accused Waiguru of coming to enjoy the fruits of the party she never took part in its formation saying she was among those who build the political party from the scratch.

“When anti-graft agencies strike, do not blame it on joining UDA. We have built the party from scratch,” Ngirici said in a cheeky post on social media.

While the report said that the EACC has concluded investigations into the planned payment of millions of shillings for a dubious land survey tender by the Kirinyaga County government and payment of questionable allowances to the governor and county officials, Waiguru argued that the looming arrest is linked to succession politics hidden under succession politics.

“Surely, barely 48hrs after we decamped to UDA, and now this? As a believer in the rule of law, this is unfortunate. Its intention is to dissuade those contemplating the same and an attempt at engineering succession politics. it won’t work. Kenyans are not stupid. There is God in heaven,” Anne Waiguru responded.
