“He was having difficulty in breathing and was pronounced dead on arrival to Garissa County Referral Hospital,” Jeremy Montage, the Church’s communications representative and pianist said.

On Wednesday, December 22, 2021, Matolo hosted the deputy president in Garissa during William Ruto’s breakfast meeting with clergy where he urge the second in command to mend fences with his boss ahead of the 2022 elections.

“We wish to remind the president and his deputy that the people of Kenya elected them as a unit and they have no choice but to serve them, contrary to the consistent political posturing and gesturing that has dominated the news,” he said.

Matolo’s death comes barely a month after Kakamega Bishop who was gifted a car by Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto died.

Bishop Shem Shamalla of the African Church of the Holy Spirit died on Wednesday, October 27, morning at his Malava home in Kakamega County.

Other church leaders who were known to be close to the deputy president but died include Bishop Godfrey Migwi who died on Thursday, December 2, as well as Bishop Simon Wanjohi Wahinya who served as a regional bishop of PEFA churches and where DP Ruto had always visited his church several times.
