Kanchori said Raila was surrounded by people who limited his access to him adding that Raila would now be in the State House if he could heed his advice.

“With time, my voice of reason was overruled by the other better-placed advisers. And that is why we are in this mess,

“I was reporting to Baba, but he did not listen to me. If he did, he would be in the state house right now. He knows that I was right in 99.9% of the things I told him,” said Kanchory.

Kanchori further claimed that Raila’s overreliance on then-Head of State Uhuru Kenyatta cost him the presidency.

He said Uhuru’s Jubilee administration had failed and that Raila defending a failed regime further cost him the seat.

“He needed to come back to being the Raila Odinga he is. I’m saddened when I saw him being reduced to being a defender of a failed regime and system,

“He needed to choose. You cannot be Uhuru Kenyatta’s defender and be the defender of the people of Kenya,” he added.

In the 2022 presidential contest, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party presidential flag bearer garnered 6.9 million votes emerging second after William Ruto who got 7.1 million votes.

This was despite the fact that Raila had the support of the then President Uhuru Kenyatta who on several occasions urged Kenyans to make an informed choice at the ballot.

Uhuru while drumming up support for his handshake partner said that Raila had the interests of Kenyan at heart and that he was the best person to succeed him.
