by Enock Ndayala

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has sarcastically claimed that he is capable of beating Deputy President William Ruto.

In a statement posted to his official Twitter account on Tuesday, December 28, the outspoken legislator said he will defeat William Ruto pants down should he vie to the country’s top seat in the 2022 elections.

Owino who recently hid crutches belonging to nominated MP Davi Sankok in parliament further said ODM leader Raila Odinga is way above his main challenger in the 2022 General Election.

“If I vie for President I can defeat (William) Ruto pants down. Baba (Raila Odinga) is way above him,” Babu Owino, a fierce critic of the deputy president said.

Earlier on, Owino had been ranked among potential presidential contenders after 2022 by a local pollster.

Babu Owino’s sentiments come barely days after a recent opinion poll revealed that William Ruto’s popularity has been declining as the clocks ticks towards the 2022 General Election.

According to a survey by Infotrak Research and Consulting that was released on Monday, December 27, William Ruto’s popularity ratings stood at 32 percent, just a single point from Raila Odinga who had 33 percent popularity ratings.

The survey, which was conducted between 17 September and 21 December, dubbed The Infotrak Voice of the People Poll, William Ruto’s popularity decreased to 32 percent in December 2021 up from 44 percent in December 2020.

According to the survey, William Ruto’s popularity declined in the Coastal region, North Eastern, Western, and Nyanza.

The survey attributes the declining popularity of William Ruto to Raila’s big announcement where the opposition chief confirmed that he will be giving a fifth stab at the presidency in August 2022

However, the survey revealed that William Ruto’s UDA party is the most popular political party ahead of the 2022 elections.
