Embakasi East MP Babu Owino now claims that Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition chairperson Uhuru Kenyatta “played” ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Babu, an ardent supporter of the former Prime Minister said retired President Uhuru Kenyatta tactically wanted to hand over power to his deputy William Ruto.

The vocal ODM legislator alleged that Uhuru indirectly helped to shoot down the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

He further claimed that Uhuru had a hand in the Supreme Court presidential petition that upheld the election of William Ruto as fifth President.

“From how he aided to bring down the BBI, to the campaign period and elections, to the attacks between him and his deputy then up to the Supreme Court ruling. All these, I knew it was a long con,” the legislator said.

The then president Uhuru Kenyatta had endorsed Raila to succeed him in the just-ended August 9, elections.

However, according to the results of the presidential election announced by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati on Monday, September 15, Raila lost the seat to William Ruto.

According to Chebukati, Ruto garnered 7.1 million votes against Raila 6.9 million, the results that were disowned by four IEBC commissioners over what they termed as the “opaque” nature of tallying.

Raila protested the results at the Supreme Court of Kenya but the seven judges dismissed his petition over what they termed as a lack of evidence.

This was despite the fact that Azimio a Umoja One Kenya Coalition presidential candidate had presented tonnes of evidence in a lorry.

Just before the presidential verdict was read, Owino took to social media saying that President Uhuru Kenyatta had honored his Memorandum of Understanding with Ruto and that he will hand over power to him once he serves his two-term constitutional limits.

“Thank you Uhuru Kenyatta for keeping your word to Ruto. Your body language tells it all. It was a long con,” he said.
