by Enock Ndayala

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka‘s bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta has been frustrated after KANU party chairman Gideon Moi announced plans to ditch the One Kenya Alliance.

Speaking during the launch of Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda’s reelection bid on a KANU party ticket in the August 9, General Election, Moi indicated that KANU will join Azimio la Umoja coalition which currently has Raila Odinga as its defacto presidential candidate.

Moi who is one of the principals in the One Kenya Alliance did not reveal when the former ruling party will sign a partnership deal with the yet-to-be-registered Azimio la Umoja coalition saying that it will be very soon.

“As KANU, we are with you in Azimio. We are together. Very soon you will hear our announcement. What is most important is that we stay as one irrespective of our differences in political ideologies,” Gideon Moi said at Kenyatta Stadium in Maralal town Samburu County.

His announcement comes barely two days after the Baringo Senator together with his Wiper counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka met and held lengthy and deep discussions with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni in State House Nakasero-Kampala.

This comes even as ODM chief Raila Odinga and Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka are inching closer to striking a political truce ahead of the unveiling of the Azimio la Umoja presidential flag bearer.

A Wiper MP, who is part of the negotiating team, disclosed that the ‘progress’ has been good and that the two leaders would work together again in the upcoming polls.

“Yes, progress is good and we hope everything will be in place by Friday,” said the MP, who sought anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr said the two former Nasa chiefs are expected to meet between Thursday and Friday after their allies cleared the way for their reunion.
