Boni Khalwale gifts himself KSh 5.3 million car for bouncing back

Seasoned politician Boni Khalwale bounced back to the senate after spending five years in the cold.

Khalwale lost the Kakamega gubernatorial seat to ODM Deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya in the 2017 General Election before making a grand return to the senate in the just-ended August 9, election.

Following his return, Khalwale commonly known as the Bullfighter has gifted himself a luxury car for winning the hotly contested seat.

The Daily Nation on Thursday, October 27, reported that the Majority Chief Whip in the Senate walked into a car yard in Nairobi and drove away with a 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.

A spot-check by Kivumbi.co.ke has since established that the local market price of the automotive is around KSh 5.3 million.

“As they say the taste of the body is in eating and I want to say that I want to start eating by driving,” Khalwale said.

The UDA legislator recaptured his senate seat in this year’s elections after garnering 249,003 votes against his main competitor Brian Lishenga of ODM who bagged 195,192 votes.

Khalwale thanked Kakamega voters for their overwhelming support that saw him defeat the other five candidates to reclaim his seat after being out for half a decade.

“I want to thank the people of Kakamega because they have voted across the political divide and have given an opportunity to all Kenyans that have been waiting for the Bullfighter to go back to parliament to bring the same standards that we left there when we served this country. I am really humbled,” Khalwale stated.

Khalwale was to vie for the gubernatorial seat but stepped down in favor of Cleophas Malala after President William Ruto brokered the deal.

Malala later lost the seat to former KETRACO boss Fernandes Barasa of the ODM party.
