The video shows the UDA hopeful pleading with the ODM deputy party leader to campaign for him ahead of his titanic battle with Brian Lishenga of the ODM party.

However, in the clip, Oparanya flatly declined and insisted that he cannot campaign for Khalwale since he is in the opposing camp.

“Khalwale anataka nimuombee kura. Unajua Khalwale ni rafiki yangu… lakini ubaya ni ile nyumba ambaye yeye ako ndani. Mimi niko nyumba ingine na yeye ako nyumba ingine,” Oparanya said as the crowd burst in laughter.

Loosely translated to “Khalwale wants me to campaign for him. You know Khalwale is my friend… but the bad thing is the house (political party) he is in. I am another house and I am another house.”

Oparanya who has been promised the Treasury Cabinet Secretary should the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya form the next government is heard saying that he could have endorsed Khalwale to succeed him should he have been in the ODM party.

Khalwale is allied to Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance while Oparanya is allied to Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party flag bearer Raila Odinga.

Boni, had expressed interest in the gubernatorial seat but his dreams were shuttered down after William Ruto struck a deal that saw him shelve his ambitions in favor of Senator Cleophas Malala.
