Boniface Mwangi explains why Raila Odinga of today is a traitor

Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi has termed ODM leader Raila Odinga as a traitor compared to the Raila Odinga many people grew up knowing.

According to Mwangi, Raila Odinga deserves a better honor for his fight for democracy in Kenya during his earlier years but he chose a negative path as he grew older, especially now that he is friends with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Raila Odinga spent 10 years in jail fighting for democracy. The younger Raila was a progressive idealist and a fighter for a better Kenya,

“For his service to this nation, he deserves a road, even an airport named after him (but) the older Raila is a traitor to his younger self,” Boniface Mwangi wrote in a tweet.

On Thursday the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) erected a road sign with Raila Odinga’s name on the now-former Mbagathi way.

The proposal to name the road after Raila Odinga was submitted by Kangema Member of Parliament Muturi Kigano on July 6 who argued that Raila is an icon who deserves such recognition.

Raila Odinga has been known to be an iconic fighter for multiparty democracy during the era of President Daniel Moi.

He is among the few modern-day politicians who have been in opposition politics long enough to be considered the people’s defender.

After the 2017 General Election, however, Raila Odinga and his 2-time presidential rival Uhuru Kenyatta pledged to work together so the country can experience peace.

The move saw many of Raila’s critics argue that he had betrayed millions of his supporters who believe President Uhuru Kenyatta has ruined Kenya’s economy as well as generally mismanaging the country.

What’s more, it is believed President Uhuru is fronting Raila Odinga- his former fiercest rival- to be president in 2022 after he (Uhuru) retires.

It is perhaps this move to work with his rival, that Boniface Mwangi believes Raila Odinga abandoned his democratic and reformist ideals to dine with the so-called ‘oppressors’ and as such terming the ODM leader a traitor.
