Ex-senator Boni Khalwale explains why he’ll give his graduate daughter a Wheelbarrow

by Enock Ndayala

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has said he has no problem giving his newly-graduated daughter a wheelbarrow in line with the United Democratic Alliance party hustler narrative which promises to empower the common Kenyan.

The politician’s daughter was among hundreds of graduates who entered the job market on Friday, September 24, after she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science degree from the University of Nairobi.

Khalwale who has been preaching the gospel of William Ruto’s UDAl whose symbol is a wheelbarrow said the wheelbarrow is a sign of hard work and as such would have no problem giving the ‘sign’ to his daughter.

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has said that he will give his daughter Inger Imbuhila Khalwale a wheelbarrow to enable her to start working immediately.

“Upon graduation today, my daughter is receiving congratulations from a growing number of Kenyans. Some are going ahead and advising that I immediately give her a wheelbarrow,

“I pray that their wish is granted. A wheelbarrow is a symbol of work representing the dignity of labor,” Khalwale said in a Tweet on Friday, September 24.

This comes at a time when Deputy President William Ruto’s hustler narrative that is anchored on the bottom-Up economic model has been receiving backlash over claims that it is retrogressive.

Two weeks ago, ODM leader Raila Odinga poked holes in William Ruto’s hustler narrative saying it is unrealistic as it promised youth jobs of yesteryears in a fast-changing world.

“People who were promised digital jobs, who were promised knowledge-based economy, who were promised double-digit economic growth, are now being offered wheelbarrows and being told Kazi ni, Kazi,” Odinga said on Tuesday, September 7, in his lecture at the University of Nairobi.

But in a rejoinder, the deputy president told off the former Premier for constantly attacking his agenda and challenged him to focus on selling his economic solution to Kenyans.

“You can as well tell us the complexity of the Orange if you wish instead of being obsessed with the simplicity of the wheelbarrow,” Ruto said in an apparent attack against Raila Odinga.
