Bring it on! Anne Waiguru’s bitter rival dares her to join UDA

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru’s bitter rival, Purity Wangui Ngirici has dared her to join the United Democratic Alliance ahead of the 2022 General Election.

It is said the two never see each other eye-to-eye despite having been elected on Jubilee party ticket to serve Kirinyaga county electorates.

On Wednesday, Governor Anne Waiguru revealed that the Jubilee Party has lost its mojo, and if elections are held today, she will not successfully defend her seat on the party’s ticket.

The statement followed a hint by Anne Waiguru that she is open to joining Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA camp in a separate interview on Tuesday, September 7.

These two successive suggestions that she was open to Joining UDA prompted a reaction from bitter rival Wangui Ngirici, considered one of the top financiers of the United Democratic Alliance.

“Ehe!,  Kwani ni kesho? Karibu nominations(Is it tomorrow already! Welcome to the (UDA) nominations.), Wangui Ngirici responded in a tweet.

This was no doubt a direct dare at Waiguru who is equally considered a strong politician in Kirinyaga county and once had a close working relationship with Deputy President William Ruto, the de facto party leader of UDA.

It gets even complicated as Wangui Ngirici has expressed interest to vie for the Kirinyaga county gubernatorial seat against Waiuguru who seeks to defend it.

If Anne Waiguru joins UDA, she will have to compete for the party’s nomination ticket with Purity Ngirici. Observers hold Ngirici has strong local support and could easily send Waiguru home.

The two have been having heated exchanges both online and through conventional media platforms.

In a separate tweet, Wangui Ngirici questioned why Anne Waiguru has a sudden change of mind after declaring that William Ruto can not win the Kikuyu vote.

“What happened to the politics of renting a Kikuyu and not buying one?” She posed.

The phrase has been constantly used by Anne Waiguru to imply that the Mt Kenya region is lying to William Ruto about supporting him in 2022.

“People have seen today that Mt Kenya has voted as a block. I said it before, I will say it again, you can rent a Kikuyu but you cannot buy a Kikuyu, they will still vote for their own people, they know what is good for the region,” Waiguru remarked

Her thought of decamping to UDA came after the defeat of BBI, where she stated that she needs to think about her political future.
