There was drama at the National Assembly gate after a middle-aged man from Bungoma sensationally claimed that he was a distant grandchild to late President Mwai Kibaki.

In a video that has since gone viral, police officers in uniform were seen trying to console him to calm down and proceed to pay the last respects to the fallen hero.

The man identified as Allan Makana who had gone to view the body of his alleged ‘grandfather’ said he was devastated by the news of his death.

“I am a distant child of Kibaki, please….People used to call me Kibaki from where I live and I have been living with that mentality that I am a distant grandchild of late president Mwai Kibaki,

“He is my president, he gave me free education, give me time and opportunity to view his body and say goodbye to him,” the man said.

When asked to come clean on how Kenya’s third President is his grandfather given that Kibaki hails from Nyeri yet he is from Bungoma, the 26-year-old said he resembles the late president.

“Look at me. Do I resemble Kibaki surely?” the mas asked as those who interviewed him responded that he somehow resembles Kibaki.

Allan said he went to Nairobi for the first time in 2016 and since then people have been referring to him as ‘Mjukuu wa Kibaki.’

When asked why he could not raise the claims while Kibaki was still alive, the unemployed man who stays in Pipeline Nairobi said people could not take him seriously and that he was waiting for the most opportune time to raise the claims.

The body of the retired president Mwai Kibaki arrived at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi from Lee Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 26, morning for the second day of public viewing.

Kenyans who did not view Mwai Kibaki’s body on Monday, April 25, have until Thursday, April 27, to pay their last respects.

Kibaki will be buried on Saturday, April 30, at his Othaya home in Nyeri County.
