Citizen TV owner defends President Uhuru’s late father against land theft

Citizen TV owner SK Macaria defended Kenya’s first Head of State, the late President Jomo Kenyatta against accusations of land grabbing.

Speaking during Raila Odinga’s meeting with Mt Kenya tycoons on Tuesday, September 28, Macharia said that he was in charge of transferring land from the British to Africans.

The Citizen TV owner disputed reports that Jomo Kenyatta grabbed land, saying that all his parcels were approved by the Agriculture Development Corporation (ADC).

“Those people who say that Kenyatta stole land, come to me I take you to the archives. Every piece of land, anybody who got land from the British has my signature and late Gakonyo’s,” Macharia said.

The media mogul, who has been a supporter of Raila Odinga for a long time, insisted that President Uhuru must leave the country in safe hands.

“Without President Uhuru Kenyatta there would be no handshake. We salute him for that. We ask him to leave that handshake to good hands so that it can continue,” he said.

His explanation on Jomo Kenyatta’s land acquisition comes after threats by William Ruto allies to expose the Kenyatta family for land that the family acquired illegally.

After Interior CS Fred Matiang’i exposed Ruto’s vast wealth, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua threatened to expose illegal land owned by the Kenyattas.

“He (Interior CS Fred Matiang’i) has opened the chapter. We will start talking about land issues in this country. Where did Mau Mau land go to? The Mau Mau land in Nakuru, who is the owner and how many GSU officers are there?

“The Mau Mau land in Kahawa, who owns it? and how many General Service Unit officers are there?” Gachagua posed.

His accusations attracted the attention of Jubilee Party, which asked William Ruto to tame his allies against attacking President Uhuru Kenyatta’s family.
