Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Monday, March 20, unsuccessfully reclaimed his alleged 2022 presidential victory from President William Ruto.

Addressing thousands of his supporters in Nairobi after he was locked out of State House, the former Prime Minister called for weekly anti-inflation protests, saying a “war has started”.

“Every Monday there will be a strike, there will be a demonstration. The war has begun, it will not end until Kenyans have obtained their rights,” said Raila Odinga said.

However, during an interview on Citizen TV, former Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala said there was a high-level meeting between Raila’s lieutenants and President William Ruto.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party Secretary General further claimed that Raila who lost the 2022 presidential election was looking for his exit strategy from active politics.

Malala said that during the meeting, Raila admitted that he lost but wants to get out of this quagmire.

“There is a high level of conversation behind the scenes. These people are coming to us, begging and asking us not to embarrass them,

“Azimio is telling us that they have an exit strategy and that we should agree to their demands. They are unable to come out of this quagmire,” Malala said.

Raila’s demands for holding weekly protests include the current high cost of living which has seen inflation rose to 9.2 percent in February making Kenya the highest in East Africa.

Raila is further demanding President William Ruto expedite the opening of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) servers.

He further wants the process of appointing new IEBC commissioners halted until the opposition is involved claiming that the president was already working to steal the 2027 Presidential elections.

However, President William Ruto has maintained that he will not give in to Raila’s demands.
