Comedian Eric Omondi tells Kenyan youth why they should take up leadership

by Nderi Caren

Comedian Eric Omondi has called on the Kenyan youth to step up and take leadership positions in the 2022 General Election.

According to Omondi, government offices in Kenya have for a long time been held by the same old people, who have not made any impact.

In a campaign dubbed ‘Fagia Wote’ the comedian argued that the youth in Kenya have the ability to determine who wins elections since they make the majority of voters.

“We must take back our country, this country has been free for 57 years but the youth have never known freedom,” he said.

Eric Omondi named a number of the top contestants for the presidential seat, urging the youth not to give them a chance.

“We must call them by name, Kalonzo, Ruto, Raila, Mudavadi we know you. Time has come, we must get angry, we must take the Parliament, Senate and State House,” he said.

Eric Omondi went on to mention some of the social injustices and extrajudicial killings that have occurred in Kenya at the watch of the current leaders.

After a loud call for youth leadership, Eric Omondi concluded by endorsing 59-year-old Jimi Wanjigi for the presidency.

“Youths, we need a president who cares for us, who understands us, a fresh person, a new face. One who has never been in office, who understands business and our needs. We need Jimi Wanjigi,” he said.

Jimi Wanjigi is eyeing the presidential seat on an ODM ticket and is set to battle it out with party leader Raila Odinga.

Wanjigi’s ambitions have caused division among members of the ODM Party, as he not only eyes the presidency but the party’s leadership position.

The businessman argues that he has been supporting Raila Odinga for a long time, and its time for the former Prime Minister to return the favour.
