Media personality Felix Odiwor alias Jalang’o has expressed his ambitions to contest for the Lang’ata Parliamentary seat in next year’s General Election.
The comic, an ardent supporter of the Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga took to social media to share a poster of himself captioned “Lang’ata 1” on an Orange background suggesting he will contest on an ODM party ticket.
In an interview on NTV on Tuesday, May 11, the comedian-cum radio presenter urged youths to register as voters in mass to help him achieve his ambition.
“I am going to be the MP for Lang’ata. I urge my followers to register as voters in Lang’ata so that we can develop the constituency to another level. I don’t go for things I cannot get,” Jalas said.
The announcement comes after months of speculations about whether he will vie for the seat or not.
His pronouncement comes barely days after Silas Jakakimba, a senior advisor at the Raila Odinga’s Capitol Hill-based Secretariat had also announced plans to unseat the current Member of Parliament Nixon Korir.
Korir who is serving his first term won the 2017 parliamentary seat on a Jubilee party ticket has had a rough time at the helm of the city constituency.
In March 2021, Korir was chased away by angry London ward voters over what they termed as voter bribery.
In a video that went viral, the angry voters were heard saying that the legislator was bribing voters.
Jalas who over the weekend officially joined Nation Media Group as the host of a new lottery show dubbed Omoka Rahisi will have to wrestle city lawyer Jakakimba for the ODM party ticket in the event they both seek Raila’s party ticket.
