Ex-Churchill live show comedian Jasper Muthomi, popularly known as MC Jessy is among several entertainers who ventured into the murky world of politics and contested in the August 9 general election.
he vied for the Imenti South parliamentary seat as an independent candidate after turning down a job offer in William Ruto’s presidential campaign team.
but in a long statement posted on his Facebook, MC Jessey surrendered to his rival before the announcement of the final tally.
While promising to vie for the seat once more in the 2027 General election, MC Jessey urged his supporters to take the loss honourably.
“I personally want to congratulate my worthy competitor Shadrack as he prepares to be the new Member of Parliament for Imenti South,” he said in the statement seen by Kivumbi.co.ke
Jessy, who joined politics a few months ago, termed the journey as an “amazing journey” and asked his supporters to “take heart” saying that it was just politics.
“To the people of South Imenti Constituency, I sincerely thank you so much for the time we have interacted during our campaign time. It has been a great journey… Take heart ni siasa tu,” he added.
In January 2022, MC Jessy announced that he will be seeking to contest for Imenti South parliamentary seat.
Later on, William Ruto announced that mc Jessey had dropped out and will he support UDA’s candidate Mwiti Kathaara.
It later emerged that the decision was not his and as such he protested.
Others who have conceded defeat in the just-ended parliamentary seat include National Assembly majority leader and Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, and his Kieni counterpart Kanini Kega.
