Other than the security threat, the COTU Boss also said that the Hustler narrative that DP Ruto is spreading is a dangerous one.

Central Organization Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has dismissed claims he plans to eliminate William Ruto a day after his security was changed.

In an address to journalists on Friday, August 27, Atwoli instead criticised changes made to the deputy president’s security detail.

Atwoli said while he does not support William Ruto’s quest for the presidency, it does not mean he wishes or plans to eliminate the former agriculture minister.

“In the community where I come from, if you have a family, children, and grandchildren like me, you can not kill, you cannot plan to eliminate anybody. We can not plan, we do not plan for that,” A visibly agitated Atwoli explained.

The COTU Boss was responding to claims by Bahati MP Kimani Ngujiri, who insinuated that the DP’s life is at risk after changes made in his security.

Ngujiri mentioned that Francis Awoli’s earlier claim; that the DP will not be on the ballot in 2022 was starting to take shape through the security changes.

In April 2019, while addressing mourners in Lamu, Atwoli declared that William Ruto’s name will not appear on the ballot, prompting critics to wonder how he would know such a thing.

In his address to journalists,s however, Francis Atwoli criticised the government for changing DP Ruto’s guards without his involvement.

“When it comes to the security of any Kenyan, I do not compromise. I equally do not support what the government did, they could have done it with the knowledge of our Deputy President,” Atwoli said.

The National Police Service, on Thursday, recalled the General Service Unit (GSU) G-company unit know for manning the deputy president’s and the president’s residences and, replaced the unit with Administration Police officers from the Government Building Unit.

The COTU boss, who is a staunch opponent of William Ruto said that if Kenyans elect him, he will respect the decision for the sake of peace.

He is not the right person to assume the presidency of this nation. If Kenyans want to do so, they are free, this is a democratic country. If he has a majority he will be elected and we will respect his office” Atwoli said.
