Cracks emerge in ODM as Raila allies clash over EALA positions

by Enock Ndayala

Cracks have once again emerged in former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

This was after Saboti MP Caleb Amisi and Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina clashed over Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party nominations to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

Ole Kina had proposed Raila nominate former Kieni MP Kanini Kega to EALA for remaining loyal to the coalition’s flagbearer and his running mate, Martha Karua.

“We need to take care of Kanini Kega. He stood firm with Azimio and is now paying the price. EALA could be a soft landing for my brother from Mt Kenya,” Ledama Ole Kina said in a Tweet.

Kega was among the leaders who publicly and ardently supported presidential candidate Raila Odinga for the top seat in the August polls.

He, however, lost the parliamentary seat he was seeking to defend to Njoroge Wainaina of the ruling UDA party.

However, Amisi fired back at Ledama stating that he was overstepping his role as a senator to reward Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party loyalists who lost in the August 9, General Election.

Amisi, instead said poll losers in the just-ended General Election should look for employment opportunities in Kenya Kwanza government, not in Azimio la Umoja.

“Kazi ziko kwa serikali sio kwa Azimio (There are jobs in government, and not in Azimio). Don’t send people to the wilderness,” Amisi said.

The lawmaker further asked Ole Kina to stop dividing Raila’s Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party.

He also told the senator to stop weighing on the coalition’s individual performance during and after the August 9, elections.

“Stop dividing the Azimio family. Who gave you the mandate to weigh the performance of various leaders and place them?” Amisi posed.
