Interior CS Fred Matiang’I his Health counterpart Mutahi Kagwe, as well as Defence CS Eugin Wamalwa, have been asked to resign for openly campaigning for Raila Odinga.

“The law prohibits Civil Servants from engaging in politics while in office and if any of them is keen on pursuing elective politics he/she is required to resign at least six months before the elections to avoid conflict of interests,” Muthama said.

Muthama further asked the trio to remain non-partisan and devote their energies to serving the government of the day and treating all the citizens equally irrespective of their ethnic, political and economic background.

Over the weekend, the trio accompanied former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to Nyamira where they all pledged to support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s handshake partner come 2022.

On his part, Matiang’i declared support for the ODM leader saying a majority of Kenyans are with Uhuru and the ODM leader.

“I will do everything the President tells me faithfully with absolute loyalty and focus to serve my country,

“Since the handshake, I have sat down with Raila (Odinga) and we have had discussions,” Matiang’i said.

Kagwe said the vote-rich Mt Kenya owes the ODM leader a political debt for supporting key leaders from the region to ascend to the presidency.

“Anytime you want this nation to move, Mount Kenya and Nyanza have to come together because we want the country to move. Why then can’t we do what we have done since independence?” Kagwe said.
