David Murathe: President Uhuru too busy to campaign for Raila Odinga

by Enock Ndayala
President Uhuru has promised to traverse Mt Kenya to hunt for votes for the Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

Jubilee Vice-Chairman David Murathe has told supporters of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party not to expect President Uhuru Kenyatta to campaign for his handshake partner Raila Odinga.

In an interview with NTV on Sunday, May 22, Murathe said the Head of State, who is also listed as the Azimio la Umoja-Ine Kenya coalition party chairman, is too busy to hit the road drumming up support for Raila Odinga.

Apart from having so many roles as the President, Murathe further said President Uhuru is not on the ticket and thus he will not be popularizing the bAzimio presidential candidate in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.

“You don’t expect him to hit the ground running that is why now you find it is Martha and Raila. They are both on the ticket.

“Uhuru is not on the ticket. He will be going home in the next 80 days and he has to oversee a peaceful transition and peaceful election. He has stepped into his shoe of being the President and Commander-in-Chief,” Murathe said.

Murathe’s sentiments came after President Uhuru’s allies disclosed that the Head of State was to hit the campaign trail in June and July 2022.

Jubilee Director of Elections Kanini Kega had earlier stated that the president will camp in his populous Mt Kenya backyard in June and July to sell his Azimio candidate, Raila Odinga.

The Kieni MP said the Jubilee party leader will be traversing the GEMA region to commission projects where he will use the occasion to show the region which direction they should take in the August 9, presidential election.

“His countrywide campaigns will start with the mountain. We do not just want him to the campaign. The President will also commission projects. President Kenyatta will also show us which direction to take. It is obvious Mt Kenya is with Karua. She is the person we will oscillate around when the boss leaves the office,” Kega said.
