David Murathe: Raila will be president with or without Mt Kenya votes

President Uhuru's allies have expressed disappointment with the move by the ODM leader to advocate for six-piece voting in ODM strongholds

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s close ally, David Murathe has claimed that the ODM leader Raila Odinga will win the August elections irrespective of the Mt Kenya voting pattern.

Speaking on Citizen TV evening program, Newsnight, on Tuesday 15, Murathe warned the Mt Kenya residents that they might end up in opposition if they do not vote for the former prime minister.

The Jubilee Vice-Chair opined that the  ODM leader even after losing Musalia and Wetang’ula, has kept his former support bases intact and that means the votes he will get from the Mt Kenya region will serve as a top-up.

“Raila is winning this election, they (Mt Kenya residents) better decide whether he is winning it with them on board or he is wining it without them on board,” Murathe said.

The Jubilee vice-chair alleged that it could be DP Ruto’s strategy to take Mt Kenya residents into the opposition after August 9.

“Maybe this is the strategy of the deputy president because his job is basically to isolate and alienate Mt Kenya from the rest of the country,” Murathe added.

Murathe ,a staunch critic of Deputy President William Ruto, further claimed that Raila Odinga will garner 64 percent of the total votes cast in the forthcoming General Election hence winning the presidential race in round one.

“In this election, I can assure you of how Raila will get 64 percent. Mt Kenya will give Raila more votes than what he will get in his native Nyanza,” he said.

The outspoken Jubilee official downplayed the recent defection of the Mt Kenya leaders, especially from President Uhuru’s home county (Kiambu) to the UDA saying most of them will not be reelected.

“We are no longer interested in people (politicians) going home. We will directly go to the people and tell them why they should vote for Raila let the people decide,” Murathe said.
