Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa has told Deputy President William Ruto to prepare himself for a handshake with ODM leader Raila Odinga after the August 9, elections.

Wamalwa who was speaking on Sunday, May 1, at St Kizito Magemo Catholic Church in Ndivisi ward, Webuye East constituency, during a fund, drive for the church, exuded confidence that the Azimio la Umoja presidential flag bearer will beat William Ruto hands down.

The CS further asked William Ruto to emulate the former Prime Minister and easily accept defeat and reach out to Odinga for a handshake and embrace unity for the sake of the stability and peace of the country.

He said Raila placed the country before his own interests even after his victory had been stolen, and that Ruto should emulate him.

“As a way of honoring the late President Mwai Kibaki, Ruto in the event that he loses to Odinga in this coming polls, which I have no doubt he will, should accept defeat and reach out to Odinga for a handshake and embrace unity for the sake of the country’s peace and stability,” Wamalwa said.

Wamawa said he was disappointed in William Ruto for slamming President Uhuru Kenyatta’s handshake during Kibaki’s funeral.

“I was disappointed to see Ruto dismiss the handshake in Kibaki’s funeral before his boss Uhuru. That was uncalled off since most Kenyans know that previous handshakes have often brought peace in the country,” he said.

Wamalwa, a loyal supporter of Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta further appealed to presidential front runners to easily extend an olive branch to one another after the polls.

“I am appealing to the two presidential candidates that whoever will lose should be prepared to work with the other in a handshake deal,” Wamalwa said.
