Dennis Anyoka: Raila Odinga might lose the 2022 presidency because of Uhuru’s support

by Enock Ndayala

City lawyer Dennis Anyoka has said it will be too hard for ODM leader Raila Odinga to win the 2022 presidential race with the support of President Uhu

While acknowledging that the former Prime Minister has been making good progress since the collapse of BBI, Anyonka said Raila might be negatively affected by Uhuru’s perceived support.

Anyoka who was speaking to K24 TV on Tuesday, October 5, said none of the past presidential candidates in Kenya who has the support of the incumbent has ever won the presidency.

City lawyer Dennis Anyoka has said it will be too hard for the ODM leader Raila Odinga to win the 2022 presidential race.

“Raila Odinga is making good progress now that he has abandoned the BBI. He seems to be backed by the current President (Uhuru Kenyatta) and if history is anything to go by, no candidate has won the election being backed by the incumbent leadership,” he said.

It is understood that in 2022, retiring late president Daniel Moi threw his weight behind Uhuru Kenyatta who went on to lose the presidency to now-retired president Mwai Kibaki.

Although the first in command has not publicly declared his support towards Raila Odinga, it is believed that Raila is President Uhuru Kenyatta’s preferred successor.

On Wednesday, September 29, the Head of State fell short of directly recommending his handshake partner as his best-suited successor.

In an address to a section of Kibra residents, President Uhuru appeared to indirectly endorse Raila Odinga as the right man to continue with his development projects while maintaining a peaceful country.

“Haven’t we experienced peace after we come together with Raila Odinga? Haven’t we experienced development after the peace? Do you want the work to go on? Do you want that work to go on?

“The choice is yours? Will you make the right decision (in the 2022 General Election)? Will you make the right choice?”Uhuru posed in a direct reference to Raila Odinga amid cheers from the crowd.
