Deputy President William Ruto says he is ready to be guarded by G4S

by Enock Ndayala

Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto has claimed he doesn’t mind being guarded by any type of security personnel including those from G4S days after changes to the security that guard his homes.

Speaking on Sunday, August 29, after attending a church service at St Augustine Catholic Church Bahati, Nakuru County, the Deputy President said he had no problem being guarded by the Administration Police who replaced General Service Unit at his residential homes.

The former Agriculture Minister said if the main purpose of redeploying the GSU officers from his residential homes is to protect the lives of Kenyans and the country as a whole, then he has no objections.

Kenya’s Deputy President William has shockingly claimed that he doesn’t mind being guarded by any type of security teams including those of G4S days after his security team was downgraded.

“If the GSU have work to serve Kenyans elsewhere for instance those troubled with cattle rustlers, then they (APs) can assist me at home,

“And if the APs are also needed elsewhere, they can even bring G4S to my home. I have no problem,” Ruto said.

While he said the downgrading of his security could have been a ploy by the government to intimidate him to quit the government he co-formed with President Uhuru Kenyatta, the former Eldoret North MP said he will stay put adding that it would be a sign of betrayal to millions of Kenyans who woke up at night to vote for him.

“It will be great fear and shame that I will escape from the problems that exist. How will it be possible for me to escape?

“It is a great betrayal of those who woke up early to vote for me because there are problems, I was not chosen to eat ice cream… trying to avoid it I will betray millions,” he said.

On Thursday, August 26, the General Service Unit (GSU) who were guarding Deputy President William Ruto’s Karen official residence and his rural Sugoi home were replaced with Administration Police.
