Deputy President William Ruto says his life is in danger

Deputy President William Ruto now says his life is in danger just days after his security was reshuffled.

On Thursday, August 26, Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai announced that GSU officers manning DP’s Karen official residence as well as his private homes had been replaced with officers from the Administration Police in what he described as normal changes.

But in a letter to Inspector of Police Hillary Mutyambai, Ruto said his new security detail might have been sent to his home with hidden motives which could easily expose him to danger.

Through his chief of staff Ken Osinde, the DP questioned the connection between the withdrawal of the GSU and the public statements of persons declaring that the deputy president will not be there in 2022.

“Is it the case that suspicious persons in AP uniform have been deployed at the residence with orders to facilitate sinister schemes against the deputy president, which the withdrawn GSU refused to implement?” Osinde posed.

The Thursday changes to the former Eldoret North MP further saw 79 GSU replaced with 31 AP officers who will be on a 12-hour changing shift.

Unlike the 32 GSU who were residing within the Karen official residence, the 20 APs who took over on security duties will only be dropped every morning and picked in the evening as another team takes over.

According to police spokesperson Bruno Shioso, the new changes did not affect the Presidential Escort which will continue to offer VVIP protection to the country’s second in command who remains the most protected person after President Uhuru Kenyatta.

While political leaders allied to the former Agriculture minister insist that the move to change William Ruto’s security was politically instigated to intimidate him, it has since been revealed that it was meant to stop a series of political meetings that were being held at his home.
