Deputy president William Ruto’s bodyguard shoots himself dead

A police officer attached to Deputy President William Ruto‘s official security detail has allegedly shot himself dead at his home

According to a report filed at the Hays police post in Juja, Constable Samuel Ngatia who was attached to the elite presidential escort took his own life on Monday, April 11.

The report further indicated that the victim was alone in the house within the General Service Unit’s Recce squad camp on Kenyatta Road at the time of the incident.

“He used his pistol and shot himself in the head with preliminary findings showing that the bullet entered on the right side and exited on the left side,” the report read in part.

Police have launched investigations to establish the motive behind the gory incident.

Kivumbi.co.ke understands that this is not the first officer attached to the second in command to take his own life.

In 2020, William Ruto’s office guard in KSh39 b fake arms probe was found dead.

The body of Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei, 33, of Administration Police’s Security of Government Buildings was found in his house in Villa Franca Estate, Imara Daima few days after he was reported missing.

The officer was on duty when former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa and two foreigners are said to have visited the Deputy President’s office along with Harambee House Annex over fake arm deals.

He was supposed to accompany his colleagues to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to record a statement in the KSh39.5 billion fake arms probe when he shot himself dead.

In January 2018, Ruto’s outrider died following an early morning road accident while he was riding ahead of the Deputy President.

The outrider was riding escorting the Deputy President who was heading to Githunguri, Kiambu County for a burial ceremony when the crash happened on Wangari Maathai road.

The Deputy President’s security escort is drawn from the elite presidential escort and escorts him on official duties throughout the country.
