ODM leader Raila Odinga held a meeting with a section of Jubilee MPs days after being a second d meeting with tycoons from Mt Kenya region who are believed to play a big part in who becomes president in Kenya.
According to Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngujiri Wambugu, the meeting was ordered and equally attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The legislators discussed issues related to the Mt Kenya region and the 2022 succession politics.
On his social media, Wambugu revealed that some of the issues discussed were;
- Equitable resource allocation.
- Equal representation.
- Access to government opportunities.
- Political presence in national government.
- Peace and security for all Kenyans.
- Respect for leaders, past, present and future.
- Continuity of government projects post 2022.
According to Wambugu, the Jubilee Members of Parliament also discussed Raila Odinga’s plans of scaling the mountain.
“He committed to respecting our leaders and gave his history, including where he keeps falling out with our region, and how he intends to fix that. He also agreed that government projects started but not completed at end of President Uhuru’s term should be finalised,” Wambugu said.
The legislator also explained that the recent meeting between Raila Odinga and representatives from the Mt Kenya region is meant to find him new partners.
“He’s looking for partners from our region. Not followers. And he will engage the region with humility. Not through force or intimidation,” he added.
The meeting overseen by President Uhuru Kenyatta comes a day after the Head of State hinted at supporting Raila Odinga’s presidency.
In one of their tour in Nairobi on September 29, the Head of State expressed confidence in his handshake partner, naming him as his preferred successor.
“Haven’t we experienced peace after we come together with Raila Odinga? Haven’t we experienced development after the peace? Do you want the work to go on? Do you want that work to go on? The choice is yours? Will you make the right decision (in the 2022 General Election)? Will you make the right choice?,” Uhuru addressed Kibra residents.
