Details of Ruto, Musalia, Wetangula political deal

by Enock Ndayala

Just days after William Ruto announced a political partnership with Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya Leader Moses Wetang’ula, details of how the trio will share government positions-should Ruto become president- have emerged.

Sources familiar with a political deal ratified by United Democratic Alliance (UDA’s) parliamentary group meeting indicate that Mudavadi will share 30 percent of the government appointments with Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula should they form the next government.

UDA, a party that the deputy president said he will use to contest for the country’s top seat should the ruling Jubilee deny him the chance will however enjoy the remaining 70 percent of state appointments.

Just days after William Ruto announced a political deal with Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula, details of how the trio will share the government positions have emerged.

While Mudavadi insisted that he will give William Ruto and ODM boss Raila Odinga a run for their money, details have emerged that the former presidential candidate will not be on the ballot but will instead back the deputy president.

It is further reported that Mudavadi has agreed to relinquish his push to be William Ruto’s running mate, a position that William Ruto has reserved for an individual from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region where Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua is considered for the job.

Sources close to the duo further disclosed that William Ruto and Musalia Mudavadi have kept the deal that brought together ANC and UDA close to their hearts even as focus shifts from the Sunday, January 23, declaration to detail of the new political alliance that includes Ford Kenya party.

Speaking to a local daily on Tuesday, January 25, ANC Secretary General Samuel Gikuru however, declined to disclose details of the political partnership stating that discussions between the three parties are still ongoing.

If the details are anything to go by, then this could portend trouble for the former Sabatia MP in his turf in his quest to position himself as the Luhya kingpin.

According to the source, Mudavadi has been promised the post of Chief of Cabinet Secretaries, similar to the position currently being held by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.
