Political analyst Dismas Mokua has claimed President Uhuru Kenyatta is the one who will pick Raila Odinga’s running mate ahead of the August polls.

Speaking on KTN News on Sunday, May 8, Mokua downplayed the importance of the recently formed Azimio running mate selection panel.

According to the political commentator, the panel was formed only for publicity purposes because their decision will count for nothing.

“This eminent group of persons has been given this opportunity not because they are doing to pick Raila’s running mate but to give Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya a level of publicity. Because for the last one week, everybody has been asking who is going to be Raila’s running mate?” Mokua said.

Mokua opines that the running mate slot within the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition was reserved for the Jubilee party.

“The convention wisdom means that the person who is going to make the call is not Raila. This position has been reserved for the Jubilee party.

” You can have the eminent persons for Azimio coming up with names for running mate, but those will count for absolutely nothing. President Uhuru Kenyatta is the one who is going to make the call.”Mokua stated.

In naming Raila’s running mate, Mokua advised the Head of State to look for a person who will help in creating political and economic stability in the country.

“The person who is going to make the call, and the probability is almost 100% is going to be President Kenyatta,, he must look for a person who will give Raila peace of mind,” he noted.

Even as the lobbying for the running mate slot continues, the panel vetting running mate candidates for Azimio la Umoja One Kenya presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga has settled on eight individuals after rejecting 12 others whose names were irregularly submitted.

Those shortlisted are; Kalonzo Musyoka, Peter Kenneth, Sabina Chege, Martha Wangari Karua, Gideon Moi, Ali Hassan Joho, Stephen Kipkiyeny Taurus, and Charity Ngilu.
