Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s mother mama Ngina Kenyatta on Thursday, April 20, admitted that people who fought for Kenya’s freedom from the jaws of the colonial masters have not been properly recognized.

Speaking at her Muthaiga home on when she hosted Field Marshall Mary Muthoni, Mama Ngina said Kenyans must never afford to neglect those who fought for the country’s freedom.

”Look at her, she is the real freedom fighter and not the other ones. They went out there and did a lot for the country,” Mama Ngina said.

The utterances by Mama Ngina were since interpreted as a direct attack on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who on many occasions has said that he has nothing to fear since he is a son of a Mau Mau fighter.

As such, the former Mathira lawmaker has challenged the former first lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta to not just praise the freedom fighters but make their lives comfortable.

Speaking in Nyeri during a meeting with members of the county of assemblies on Friday, April 21, the deputy president urged ex-president Uhuru Kenyatta to surrender part of Kenyatta’s family land to Mau Mau fighters living in squalor.

He said the mau mau and their children were currently living in a deplorable state because Kenya’s first family grabbed land that belonged to mau mau.

“I am happy I heard people saying they are thinking of how to help people. Even if they haven’t helped people since 1963, they are not late All those mau mau pieces of land that they took, they should consider giving even half of them to mau mau people and their children including me,

“Mau mau and their children are suffering. They took all mau mau pieces of land. Swara ndio wanakula huko,” DP Rigathi Gachagua said.
