by Enock Ndayala
It has now emerged that a division is brewing within the ruling party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asked President William Ruto to grant him some time off work to further his education.

Speaking during the launch of the National Police Service Leadership Academy in Ngong, Kajiado County, on Wednesday, December 21, the second in command said he feels overwhelmed during state meetings.

Gachagua hilariously confessed that being the country’s second in command and Mt Kenya’s senior political leader, his education was a little bit low.

“Kwa hile kazi nimepewa na rais, masomo yangu iko chini kidogo (From the work I have been given by my boss, my education is a little bit low,” Gachagua said.

The deputy president said sometimes he encounters challenges during important meetings where some of his juniors including Interior CS Kithure Kindiki are more educated.

“President Ruto, please allow me some time, work allowing, to go back to school. You know that you have three degrees and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki is a professor,

“Meanwhile, I only have one degree. Sometimes I get into meetings overwhelmed. Education is important,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua who spoke just moments after Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machgu had released the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results further asked police officers to further their education.

The former Mathira Member of Parliament holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Literature from the University of Nairobi.

After his graduation in 1985, Gachagua later joined Administration Police Institute for Paramilitary Training before joining the Kenya School of Government for an advanced Public Administration Course.

On the other side, Kenya’s President William Ryto has three degrees from the University of Nairobi.

The former Eldoret North MP enrolled at the University of Nairobi, whence he graduated with a B.S. in botany and zoology (1990).

Ruto would later resume his education at the same institution, earning both an M.S. (2011) and a Ph.D (2018) in plant ecology.
