DP Gachagua’s wife pleads with Kenyans to give President Ruto time

In February 2023, Kenya’s Supreme Court ruled that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people were free to register as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s wife pastor Dorcas Gachagua has asked Kenyans to give Kenya Kwanza administration more time to realize transformation in the country.

Speaking during the Kahuhia Girls Prize Giving Day over the weekend, the second lady said it was disheartening to see a section of Kenyans criticize the government for having dne nothing despite being in control less than a year.

“I would like to speak about the government because many people imagine that this government has not done anything and we are talking of only one year, give it five years and you will see transformation in this country,” DP Gachagua’s wife said.

She reiterated that issuing certificates to Kenyans with informal education would pave the way for them to secure employment and contribute to the nation’s growth.

“Government is looking into ways of giving accreditation to these people so that they too can get certificates. Your brothers who are out there who may not have had the opportunity to be in school and your sisters will now get certificates and you find them in employment,” she added.

Her comments come at a time when the opposition wing led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has been criticizing the government for the high rate of unemployment, as well as the high cost of living.

Raila’s wing has maintained that President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua are illegally in office and have failed to bring down the cost of living as promised in their pre-election manifesto.

As such, the wing has been holding anti-government protests which saw several Kenyans lose their lives while hundreds of others sustained injuries prompting the government side to agree to talks with the opposition.
