by Enock Ndayala

The Jubilee Party on Thursday, March 9, started its four-day People Dialogue Festival at Museums of Kenya in Nairobi.

The fete organized by the Centre for Multi-party Democracy (CMD) and which is aimed at deliberating on democracy is being attended by the Jubilee Party led by its secretary-general Jeremiah Kioni, UDA, KANU, DP, and other political outfits and personalities.

The meeting came against the backdrop of push and pull over whom between EALA MP Kanini Kega and former Ndaragua MP Jeremiah Kioni is the party Secretary General.

During the event, the Jubilee Party leadership wrangles played out when it was the time for the party’s Secretary General to address the members after the two walked to the podium to issue their remarks with each claiming to be the party’s spokesperson.

However, in a video shared online, youths aligned with Jubilee Party secretary general, Jeremiah Kioni, were seen escorting former Kieni MP Kanini Kega out of the meeting.

Kega who led a group of at least 30 lawmakers in ditching Azimio had previously attempted to stage a coup at the Jubilee Party but the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) halted the process.

Addressing journalists after the drama, EALA MP Kanini Kega accused Jeremiah Kioni of sponsoring goons to disrupt his meeting in Nairobi.

“As Jubilee party, we do not fight nor do we have acrimonious disagreements. We always agree and disagree with respect. Our institutions are peaceful,” said Kega.

But on his part, JKioni, a close ally of Rtd. President Uhuru Kenyatta dismissed Kega as the party’s Secretary General saying he has not sponsored goons to disrupt the meeting.

“We have no history of sponsoring goons and it is very unkind for someone who has been in the party to term his own members as goons. I am still the party SG and that is the record available at the Office of Registrar of Political Parties,” he said.
