Edward Kisiang’ani: Raila wants Mt Kenya to repay him for endorsing former President Mwai Kibaki

Political analyst Edward Kisiang’ani now claims that ODM leader Raila Odinga wants the vote-rich Mt Kenya region to repay him for endorsing retired President Mwai Kibaki.

In a series of tweets, the analyst said the former opposition leader used Mahujaa Day on Wednesday, October 20, to remind Central Kenya region how helped Kibaki become President, indirectly urging them to return the favour in 2022 General Election.

“In his Mashujaa Day speech, the opposition leader reminded Mt Kenya people he had helped Kibaki to become President by mobilising Luos to support a Kikuyu candidate. What Raila was actually intimating was Mt Kenya had a debt to pay,” Kisiang’ani said.

Political analyst Edward Kisiang’ani now claims that ODM leader Raila Odinga wants the vote-rich Mt Kenya region to repay him for endorsing Mwai Kibaki.

“Get it right.  My point is in Kirinyaga today(yesterday), Raila (Odinga)went there not to celebrate Mashujaa Day but to ask when Mt Kenya people would pay their ‘debts’ to him,” he said in a Tweet.

Odinga, in his Mashujaa day speech, launched in what has become a regular charm offensive in Mt Kenya ahead of the 2022 showdown where he revisited his ‘Kibaki Tosha’ declaration in 2002 when he endorsed retired President Mwai Kibaki for the Presidency.

Raila recalled how he spearheaded Kibaki’s campaigns after the former president’s involvement in a road accident.

The ODM leader said Mwai Kibaki is one of his foremost national heroes, calling for him to be appreciated and celebrated nationwide.

“When I said Kibaki Tosha, people said I was finished politically because no Luo would vote for a Kikuyu because of what happened to Tom Mboya and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga,” Raila narrated.

According to President Uhuru’s handshake partner, Kibaki’s eventual victory in the 2002 polls was courtesy of over 90 per cent votes from Luo Nyanza region.

“Some 98.5 per cent of Luos voted for Kibaki, showing that this tribalism is skin-thin,” Raila went on during the Mashujaa Day celebrations..
