Edwin Sifuna admits William Ruto is leading in Mt Kenya region

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has assured President William Ruto that he will still lose in the 2027 presidential race even if he names Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as his presidential running mate.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has confirmed what recent opinion polls show – that William Ruto is leading in Mt Kenya region.

In an interview with NTV on December 6, the member of Raila Odinga’s party said that Ruto made early inroads in the Mt Kenya region, hence his popularity defeating that of Raila Odinga.

Edwin Sifuna noted that Ruto is much ahead given that his popularity in the region draws back to 2013.

“We already conceded that the Deputy President had a head start in the region because he has been campaigning there for 8 years. At ODM our hearts are filled with gratitude for the people of Mt Kenya that for the first time they have opened their ears to listen to Raila Odinga,” he said.

Sifuna, who was at Kasarani preparing for Raila Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja meeting to be held on December 10, neither confirmed nor denied that Raila Odinga will be the party’s presidential candidate.

“Azimio la Umoja is not an ODM function, as you understand Raila Odinga is an international leader. He has been going around the country to ask Kenyans whether they would like him to continue with politics, he is going to use this occasion to give the answer,” Sifuna said.

The Secretary General also gave hints that the merger between ODM and Jubilee might be officiated that day as 5 delegates of ODM and 5 delegates from Jubilee from each ward will be attending the event.

“It is now common knowledge that everything we do is going to be a joint effort between the two political parties. We have already resolved that we are going to work together,” he said.

On Monday, Raila held a meeting with Jubilee and ODM leaders from Nairobi County.
